Mandy Jones Detection dog handler

Mandy Jones

I've always been passionate about dogs, a journey that evolved from having loyal pets to a professional career. As a vet nurse, pet dog trainer, and Conservation and Detection dog handler and trainer, my fascination with dogs deepened through an unexpected introduction to Search and Rescue (SAR) at a vet clinic. Joining a local SAR team, I was captivated by the extraordinary bond and teamwork between a dog and its handler.

My interest in a dog's incredible sense of smell led me to train an English Springer Spaniel, Tex, in SAR. While pursuing a Diploma in Dog Training, I discovered Conservation Detection Dogs and was instantly hooked. Although my initial dog wasn't suited for conservation work, I found Nessie, who became my dedicated Conservation dog.

Our plans shifted due to COVID, leading us to form a Search and Rescue group and excel in Man trailing. Nessie, a natural at scent work, also thrived in Conservation Detection, trained on various odors including endangered lizard scats. Our success in Fox den detection has led to significant projects with various agencies and a local university.

I am passionate about understanding each dog's unique personality, motivations, and helping owners connect deeply with their pets, ensuring they live fulfilling lives.
